Are you a FEZZer yet? New website for sharing code

We are very excited to announce the new website that is dedicated for sharing NETMF knowledge. This website will be the base for all GHI open source drivers and we encourage you to post any helpful code in it. You will benefit back by using other users' code and from the experience points you will receive from posting code.

The website is still in beta and only up for testing purposes. Please check it out and let us know what you think http://www.fezzer.com

Currently, adding code will not add experience points but do not worry we will be adding this very soon and whatever you do now will be recalculated and added to your MyGHI account. So, go ahead and add it all Smiley

Discussion starts here http://www.tinyclr.com/forum/12/1225/

Edit: We no longer use fezzer.com. We have moved it to be part of this very website http://www.tinyclr.com/codeshare

FEZ Cobra on MSDN

Colin Miller wrote about how .NET Micro Framework (FEZ Cobra) fits together with desktop .NET Framework and Microsoft Windows Azure-hosted Web Services using DPWS (Devices Profile for Web Services):

Today, we see a proliferation of applications that include connected devices. In fact, the Internet of Things (devices connected over the Internet) is already estimated to be larger than the World Wide Web in terms of endpoints and is projected to grow to an order of magnitude larger in the next few years.

In the near future, well be interacting with more intelligent devices instead of recognizable computers. Just look around your house. The things that can be usefully connected include your appliances (for energy management, software updates and maintenance); your car (for coordination on recharging your new electric vehicle with the grid, automatic testing and maintenance and software updates); your irrigation system (for scheduling based on weather reports and water management); your pets (to determine their location and configure invisible fencing); your thermostat (for remote control); and much more.

FEZ can play audio. You only need a wire!

How mush does it cost you to add audio playback to FEZ? It costs you a piece of wire! Yes that is all you need to play wav audio files. Now, this is not meant to play music but it is ideal if your product/project will need to voice out some commands or alerts.

Maybe dial a number or playback a message ... You can probably think of a million ways to use this.

Here is a little video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G3HnikN-nLk

This will be added to the SDK coming next week and will be demoed at maker faire as well.

Native TCP/IP support and in-field update on all GHI-NETMF products

We have two new leading-edge features that add more to the GHI's long list of [italic]exclusive[/italic] features Smiley

1. WIZnet support. This is not an experimental driver but a commercially and professionally supported driver for your networking needs. It includes TCP server/client, UDP datagram and DNS. DHCP is coming soon too! The interface is standard .NET sockets so no learning curve is needed. All you have to do is initialize the wiznet driver with the correct IOs and that is it. Joe, our networking expert, will follow up with an example on how this is done.

2. We have added an in-field update feature that allows you to update the firmware remotely! Combine that with the new wiznet networking support and now your device can update itself from the internet. You can update from SD card or USB drive as well. This is all explained in documentation but more tutorials will come explaining it all. The community is also welcome to help us out with the tutorials and we will surly get you some experience points.

Known issue: Installing the SDK over the previous one works but will remove the templates for some reason! We recommend that you uninstall the old GHI SDK before installing the new one.

Do not forget to update the firmware [italic]and[/italic] the GHI assemblies in your project.

There are some more features and fixes that are all listed on the release notes http://www.tinyclr.com/release-notes-beta/
See the beta page for more details http://www.tinyclr.com/beta/

Note: Only experienced users have access to the beta download. A public release will be out in about two weeks.

Please only use the "Beta Release" board to discuss http://www.tinyclr.com/forum/12/946/
